Referred to by as one of the driest places on Earth, the Atacama Desert occupies the northern third of Chile. Is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Andes Mountains to the east.
The Atacama region’s fluctuating temperatures and unique biology make it a fascinating destination worthy of exploration.
Due to its elevation and cloudlessness it’s also a place for astronomical observation.
The Atacama altitude averages about 2,438 meters (8000 feet) above sea level. Some parts at about 3,900 meters (13000 feet), and the extreme high reaches push to over 5,700 meters (19000 feet).
That is why it is the highest and driest desert in the world!
Best time to go.
The best season for visiting Atacama Desert are from September to November and March to May.
The warmest months are January, February, March, October, November and December.
During February there are more chances to have some rainy days.
