Chile will request an E-Visa to australians entering the country as tourists.
As of last December 2019, Australian tourists are no longer charged the fee of Usd 117 to enter the country however, as of May 9, 2020 Australian passport holders must obtain an E-Visa to enter Chile, before arriving in the country.
According to a decree issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Public Security of Chile, published on October 17, 2019, Australian nationals must get an e-visa to enter Chile as of May 2020.
There will be 3 types of Tourist VISAs: the Single Entry Visa and the Multiple Entries Visa will allow Australian tourists to enter Chile for a maximum period of 90 days. In the case of the Transit Visa, it will be valid for 72 hours between the entry and departure flights.
The cost for this document will be established by the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, using the principle of reciprocity, meaning that they will apply the same conditions that Chileans need to enter Australia. At the moment, Chileans pay AUD $ 145 for a Tourist Visa to enter and stay in Australia as tourists so, it is estimated that the Single Entry and Multiple Entries Visas costs will be around that. In the case of the Transit Visa, it will be free of charge.
Last but not least, it is important to mention that Australians arriving in Chile by plane with the sole purpose of connecting to another country will not need to issue any Visa, as long as they remain in the Transit Area within the airport and do not go through Migration.
TThe information to request this document will be available here: https://tramites.minrel.gov.cl (Visa section), although the government is still developing the site. In case of any doubts and to be up-to-date about any news, please check here: https://chile.gob.cl/australia/
