El Calafate, Argentina: New Excursion available on Season 2019/2020
The “All Glaciers” sailing tour is now available after the construction of facilities within the “Los Glaciares” National Park.
Immense in beauty and small in size, El Calafate is the city of the Glaciers par excellence. It is located on the shores of the Argentino Lake and to the west of the Argentinean Patagonia.
El Calafate is an important tourist center that has acquired both, national and international significance, because from this point start all the tourist circuits, that go from the classic viewpoint of the Perito Moreno glacier, to bold expeditions that cross the glaciers from side to side –without leaving aside the amazing full-day navigations and horseback ridings in unique Patagonian Estancias (ranches).
One of the classic excursions that operated in the region until a few years ago, was the full-day navigation called “All Glaciers”;. During this tour, you could sail on the Argentino Lake and had breathtaking views of the Upsala, Spegazzini and Onelli glaciers. On this bay it was also possible to descend for a hike in the park and have lunch.
However, after the detachment of part of a wall of the Upsala glacier into the lake, a huge wave destroyed the facilities in that sector and that tour stop operating – even up to date, as there still is a possibility of that event to happen again in that sector of the park.
As of September 2019, and thanks to the construction of new facilities, a new variation of the “All Glaciers” sailing tour is operative with a small twist: the Onelli Glacier and Bay are not included.
During this tour, you can navigate and observe the Upsala, Spegazzini glaciers, and also, descend on one of the sections in the National Park, so as to have lunch and hike on self-guided trails.
Thanks to this, tourists arriving at the Land of Glaciers, have one more option to explore one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Argentinean Patagonia.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
