Routes Connecting Chile and Argentina Beyond the Capitals

In a move strengthening connectivity between Chile and Argentina, two prominent airlines have announced new air links joining key tourist destinations in both nations. These expansions promise to significantly broaden travel options for international visitors eager to explore South America’s diverse beauty.

LATAM Airlines Group has unveiled plans to reactivate its seasonal direct route between Bariloche, Argentina, and Santiago, Chile, for the 2024-2025 summer season.

Starting December 6, 2024, LATAM will offer three weekly frequencies on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. This service will utilize a combination of Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, providing options in both Premium Economy and Economy classes.

Florencia Scardaccione, Commercial Manager of LATAM in Argentina, emphasized the significance of this connection: “Recovering this emblematic flight not only increases our offering between Chile and Argentina but also links the south of our country with multiple global destinations, enhancing our service proposition for customers.”

This direct link will facilitate access to Bariloche, renowned for its stunning landscapes of lakes, forests, and mountains. Furthermore, through LATAM’s operations center in Santiago, passengers can connect to over 10 international destinations in Australia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, the United States, and Peru.

Concurrently, Sky Airlines has announced a new seasonal route from Santiago, Chile, to El Calafate, Argentina, for the summer period. This addition is particularly noteworthy as it inaugurates the first regular international flight to El Calafate, providing direct access to the famous Perito Moreno glacier.

Initially, Sky will operate two weekly frequencies on this route, with potential for future increase. This expansion complements Sky’s existing flights to Bariloche, as well as its regular itineraries to Buenos Aires and Mendoza from the Chilean capital.

These new routes not only optimize connectivity between both countries but also offer foreign tourists the opportunity to explore the majestic Patagonian region on both sides of the border.
The expansion of these routes reflects a growing trend in the region towards greater tourism integration and closer cross-border collaboration. As these connections develop, new opportunities for sustainable tourism and cultural exchange throughout the Patagonian area are expected to emerge.

For tour operators and travel agencies catering to international clients, these new routes offer exciting possibilities to design unique itineraries encompassing multiple destinations in Chile and Argentina, providing more enriching and diverse travel experiences in South America.
