After 1 year Jorge Newbery Airport reopens its doors

Jorge Newbery Airport is located in the eclectic and cosmopolitan capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires.

This city, also called the “Paris of South America” by its old buildings with a clear influence of French architecture, is also cradle of “tango” and its celebrations of the suburbs, great theaters world-wide recognized by its incredible acoustics, like the famous “Teatro Colón”, museums, old coffees like the emblematic “Café Tortoni”, which used to be frequented by great figures of the city such as Jorge Luis Borges, Carlos Gardel and Alfonsina Storni; as well as they are possible to be found, trendy bars and clubs in the vibrant district of Palermo,  interactive shows like the ones “Fuerza Bruta” presents at  Centro Cultural Recoleta and excellent restaurants of international level, where nobody would have to stop trying the best meat in the world.

After almost a year of being closed, first due to the pandemic and then due to expansion and renovation works, the Jorge Newbery Metropolitan Airport will reopen from next March 15 at 10 p.m. Therefore, airlines have started selling flights to and from this destination.

For the time being, only domestic flights will begin operating from March 16 2021. Regional flights are also expected to begin operating in the future.

With the closure of the El Palomar airport, low-cost airlines will also start operating from the Buenos Aires airport. Jetsmart already has flights available in its system leaving from that point on March 16. Meanwhile, from Flybondi they assured that in the coming days they will begin to schedule their flights with Aeroparque as a new starting point.

As far as the works of renovation, they included the aggregate of 615 meters in length and 20 of wide of the runway, to optimize the regional operations and to improve the security and the connectivity with the outside. The airstrip will go from the current 2,100 meters long and 40 wide, to 2,715 long with a width of 60 meters. These refurbishments will allow the operations of larger aircraft, such as the Boeing 787 and the Airbus 330.

The international arrivals and departures sector was also expanded at the passenger terminal, and a new beacon system was put in place for operational safety at take-offs and landings.
