New rules to visit Machu Picchu, Peru, from January 2019

Tourists entering the famous Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, Peru, as of January 2019 will have to limit their visits to a maximum of four hours, with prior registration.

With the aim of improving the order and the experience within the complex, according to what was announced by the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism.

At the moment, tourists can enter this unique open-air museum in two large shifts: the first, from 6 am to noon, and the second from noon to 5pm, and can re-enter in the second shift.

However, as of January people who would like to visit Machu Picchu must register in advance in the corresponding slots, will be able to stay only for 4 hours within the ruins and they will not be able to reenter. In each range of hours, it will not be exceed the limit of 2,500 tourists visiting the Inca citadel simultaneously.

Moreover, since the larger flow of visitors is concentrated during the morning, incentives were announced for tourists who choose the second and third shifts: those who choose the second, will have free entry to the Machu Picchu Site Museum; and for the third, there no only the entrance to the Machu Picchu Site Museum will be free, but also to the Archaeological Complex of Raqchi.
