Rio de Janeiro Inaugurates the largest Ferris Wheel in Latin America

The 88-meter-tall Rio Star Ferris wheel has been inaugurated last December 2019 and is located near the city's aquarium and two new museums, in the Porto Maravilha – Marvellous Port.

Rio de Janeiro, “A Cidade Maravilhosa”, Portuguese for “the Marvelous City”, was born next to the bay and its nick name shows the perfect combination of the sea, land, weather and its people, characterized for having a mixture of the different cultures.

The second largest city in Brazil has a majestic beauty, with built-up areas nestled between the magnificent Guanabara bay and dazzling beaches on one side and an abruptly rising mountain range, covered by a luxuriant tropical forest, on the other – all this that now can be admired from the largest Ferris wheel in Latin America.

The 88-meter-tall Rio Star Ferris wheel has been inaugurated las December 2019 and is located near the city's aquarium and two other museums, in the Porto Maravilha – Marvellous Port, the largest urban development project in the country and that the city of Rio de Janeiro made during its successful bid for the 2016 Olympic Games.

The complete tour lasts about 18 minutes and the public is accommodated in 54 gondolas (cabins) with capacity for up to eight passengers. This attraction is already open every day, including holidays, from 10am to 6pm and it offers a privileged view of the Christ the Redeemer statue in the Corcovado Hill, the Sugar Loaf and the Guanabara Bay. Tickets are already on sale and at the moment, with discounted rates.

If interested in riding the Giant Wheel, we can include the ticket on one of our tours that focuses in the Port district. If you would like to check-out this area of Rio de Janeiro on your own and ride the Ferris Wheel, do not miss this new point of the city, including the Museum of Tomorrow, the Museum of Art of Rio (MAR, the largest aquarium in Latin America, AquaRio Marinho, and Rio’s biggest graffiti mural: an amazing multi‐coloured panel that was created by Toz with the help of other great 8 graffiti artists.
